As we wrap up our discussion on fabric and clothing, we want to talk beliefly about the use of fabric in other products in the home. When we purchase items for our home such as bedding or furniture how can we tell what they are made from? A conversation with the furniture salesperson will not normally reveal whether the foam in the cushions of the sofa will out-gas or whether the materials are natural or synthetic. Or when we buy bedding for our newborn we are not informed that the child will breathe 30-60 times a minute making it important that their new respiratory system is not inhaling chemicals. Finding this information before a purchase can be a mini research project. What makes the research even more involved is that our manufacturing processes produce parts of the resulting merchandise separately from a variety of raw materials both natural and synthetic. We would like to share two articles on these topics, written by knowledgeable individuals in the field, to help you shop wisely. Your desire to be a conscious consumer has never been easier!
