Natural Health > AcupunctureAccording to National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), acupuncture is a part of traditional Chinese medicine and has been practiced in Asia for thousands of years. The technique involves the stimulation of specific points on the body by a variety of techniques, including the insertion of thin metal needles through the skin. It is intended to remove blockages in the flow of qi, and to restore and maintain health. In 1997, the National Institutes of Health officially recognized acupuncture as an effective treatment for pain and nausea. Licensed in Washington and more than 30 other states, acupuncturists work as independent providers of health care for a range of conditions from pain management to women's health problems.
