Mind and Spirit > Support Groups

Support groups are gatherings of people who share similar issues, such as common health problems (e.g. breast cancer, addiction) or emotional distress (e.g. griefing). These groups should not be confused with group therapy which is a type of formal medical treatment. Support groups can provide emotional support to aid with recovery, create a forum to share tips, and offer a venue for members to openly discuss concerns and feelings. They can be organized by people who are experiencing the issue, healthcare organizations, advocacy groups. (source: Mayo Clinic)
